the residence of King Arthur

As you sweep along the grand tree-lined driveway, it’s immediately clear you have arrived somewhere truly special. Pencoed House Estate has welcomed an extraordinary array of residents, including Members of Parliament, Sheriffs of the County, church ministers, prosperous farmers, and descendants of the King of Glamorgan. Local legend even claims it was once home to King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, while the Black Prince is said to have hidden his wife within secret tunnels beneath the estate.

The Estate’s origins remain steeped in mystery. It is widely believed to have been established by the Welsh notable Jevan ap David in the early fifteenth century. Its distinctive Gothic stone arch has inspired theories that it began life as a small monastery, while others attribute much of the present building to sixteenth-century construction. Whatever its beginnings, Pencoed House Estate remains one of Glamorgan’s oldest privately occupied residences and a treasured landmark of Welsh heritage.
